Robert Hänel is Partner of Anchor Rechtsanwälte, a law firm with about 170 staff and
15 offices in Germany specializing in insolvency and restructuring. Since he started working
as a lawyer in 1999 Robert has taken Court appointments as insolvency administrator in
numerous insolvency proceedings and as custodian in debtor in possession proceedings,
many of those including cross-border issues. Besides that he regularly advises in insolvency
and pre-insolvency situations and represents parties in litigation cases before German
Courts.
One of Robert’s fields of expertise is international insolvency law. He is author and coauthor of several publications in this area, among them two commentaries to the European
Insolvency Regulation. In 1998 he joined INSOL and for several years has been a member
of the Smaller Practice Issues Committee and of a sub-committee developing
recommendations to facilitate cross border-recognition of consumer insolvencies. In 2021
he joined INSOL’s newly founded Insolvency Practice Group. He is also co-chair of INSOL
Europe’s TRIP Group and EU Study Group and member of the board of the German
association for insolvency administrators VID (Verband Insolvenzverwalter und Sachwalter
Deutschlands e.V.), which he represents in the EIP (Association of European Insolvency
Practitioners’ Organizations). In 2020 he was accepted as member of the International
Insolvency Institute (III) and joined the Expert Group advising the European Commission on
the harmonization of European inso
